The usual work places of a pharmacy technician include retail pharmacies, hospitals, department stores, nursing homes and care establishments. This job entails someone to work on shifting schedules that may include weekends and holidays. The responsibilities of a pharmacy technician involve carrying heavy boxes, refilling medical supplies, preparing medications, mixing and weighing prescription drugs and conversing with patients. It is very important that they build a good professional relationship with customers so that they can create an atmosphere of trust and ease. Pharmacy technicians should possess excellent mathematical, spelling and reading skills. They should be able to work in precision and independently. However, they are also encouraged to seek the assistance of a pharmacist especially in answering a patient’s questions about drugs and health concerns. Pharmacy technicians are expected to be responsible and well-organized as they are dealing with prescription medications.

Although there is no such thing as a standard education requirement for this job, most employers prefer to hire those that have undergone a formal training program. To have a certification and a previous work experience will also serve as an edge in landing this position. Training can be acquired from community colleges, hospitals and even the military. The programs are usually inclusive of the internship, classroom discussions, hands-on experience, associate’s degree, diploma or a certificate. Aside from the education and the certification, employers seek applicants who possess a skill in managing inventory, preparing medications and counting tablets. This is where on-the-job training and previous work experience become very useful. Proficiency in computers is also considered an edge in this career. Aspiring pharmacy technicians can get their certification from either the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians. Securing one is highly optional but is definitely a plus when applying for such a position.

As predicted by the United States Department of Labor, the job outlook for this career is quite promising for the coming years. The demand for pharmacy technicians will increase as they will be tasked to perform the duties of a pharmacy aide as well as some of the important assignments of a pharmacist. There will be numerous job openings for individuals who want to pursue the career of a pharmacy tech. And because many employees are expected to leave the field due to a career change, the employment growth is bound to rapidly increase as well. Pharmacy technicians who take the time to gain more knowledge and skill about the job may be offered advancement in their work. They may be assigned to do supervisory tasks, sales and some other specialty position. They can also become pharmacists if they pursue the proper education. A pharmacy technician may choose to work either full time or part time. If they work in a facility that is open for 24 hours, then they may also work on night shifts. But those who have earned seniority with their employers may negotiate their work schedules. That’s just one of the many perks that a veteran in the field can enjoy. And since they work in a clean and well-ventilated facility, they are expected to abide by its established sanitary rules and regulations.

After finishing high school, the next step in life is to choose a career for us. Nowadays, there are a lot of career options to choose from that causes newly graduates to be confused on what they really wanted to be. We all know that one of the best and chosen careers are those under health care like nurses, sonographer, doctor’s and so on. Today, another area in health care is making its name in the world of careers and this is by becoming a phlebotomist technician.

Not all people are familiar about phlebotomy. Phlebotomy is a method of getting or drawing blood from a patient in order to diagnose and treat a health problem. Although nurses, paramedics and doctors may be trained for phlebotomy still a phlebotomy technician is the one specially trained in performing this blood drawing process from patients. To give you a more detailed description on what a phlebotomist technician is, the next paragraphs will give you everything that you need.

Let us start by knowing what phlebotomist technician’s do. The main and basic job of a phlebotomy technician is to take blood from a patient for sampling. The blood samples are very helpful in diagnosing diseases and once the disease has been identified, it would be easier for other members of the health care team to provide and make a place of care for the patient. Phlebotomist technicians work in different work settings. But usually, they can be found working in laboratories, hospitals, diagnostic centers and blood banks.

Being a phlebotomist technician is a very neither fragile nor delicate job thus it is important to keep and maintain hygiene during the whole blood extraction method. To keep everything clean, it is important for them to always wear gloves while taking the samples. The phlebotomist technician must also know how to keep the patients relax to reduce and lessen their fear and anxiety since most patients are afraid of needles and injections. This can be done by explaining every procedure to the patient. They should also make sure that they will do the procedure with care and in a safe manner. To start the procedure, first monitor the vital signs of the patient. Make sure that all equipments and tools are clean and sterilized to prevent the spread of infection. Keep all medical records and make sure that everything is accurate. After the blood samples have been drawn, next step is to send it to the laboratory for further evaluation.

Seeking an insight and discovering the world of phlebotomy would give you one answer, this is a career that may be easy but drawing blood from a patient is a skill that is needed to be learned. That is by equipping yourself with the needed knowledge and skills needed to be a successful phlebotomist technician is the best thing to do. First thing that is needed to be done is to learn how to provide an environment for a patient where there is trust and confidence in your part while you are doing the procedure in a safe manner. The first step is to get a phlebotomist technician training from a recognized school that in the end will give you a degree. In looking for a school, it is important for you to be in an accredited phlebotomy technician school that will offer a program that can be finished for 6 months to one year. These schools provide classes on anatomy and physiology, blood extraction and blood sampling. Students are taught about the different venipuncture techniques that will not cause damage on the veins. Once the whole program has been completed, the students have an option to obtain a certification or not. A certification will give you a chance and opportunity to apply as an intern in a health care facility where you will be trained.

One of the most important aspects that have been attracting aspiring phlebotomist technicians is the phlebotomist technician salary. From the start of their career, new phlebotomist technicians will earn eight dollars up to ten dollars per hour which is good for those who do not have any working experience as a phlebotomist technician. If one has three to four years of working experience then they can earn more.
When it comes to an annual salary, phlebotomist technicians may earn $42,000 a year. The lowest salary earned can be less than $25,000 a year and the highest salary paid can go as high as $60,000 a year. For those phlebotomist technicians receiving the lowest salary can earn an average wage of $13 or even less than that. The lower wages are paid to those who are working in rural areas. Highest pay is given to those who are working in urban areas where they receive a salary of more than $40,000. For those who wanted to earn more, the location of the work is one factor that can help a lot. The five top paying states are Tennessee, Connecticut, Hawaii, Minnesota and Alaska. These states will pay more than $50,000 a year.

Ultrasound technicians or ultrasonographers are the professionals who are able to operate the machine known as the sonogram. Ultrasound machines are readily available diagnostic tools that physicians use to peer into their patients€™s internal organs. Unlike most diagnostic exams that require exposure to certain dyes, radiation, or take a lot of preparation, a sonogram requires very little preparation on the part of the patient and is extremely safe to use.

With the help of a transducer, the ultrasound technician is able to view the patients€™s internal organs in real time through a small screen. With it, he is able to record the body€™s movements and take measurements of the details that require close monitoring. The ultrasound machine is an extremely accurate and reliable tool for diagnosing patients, which is why a lot of physicians trust the results that are given to them by the technicians.

As an ultrasound technician, you will be able to work in a number of safe laboratory environments. There are a lot of job openings for this career, and the job growth is expected to rise well above average with the turn of the next decade. The openings are usually from hospitals looking for entry level technicians where salary is the highest, private owned diagnostic centers that need experienced ultrasonographers and public health centers that will accept those that make the necessary cut for their facility

Ultrasonographers will be faced daily with a number of problems related to work. It is their duty to schedule patients for their procedure, maintain the machines and ensure that the results are released on time. Forming close interpersonal relationships is key in this job. There will be a lot of people that ultrasonographers have to meet in a day and they need to make sure that these people fully understand the procedure they are about to undergo.

Ultrasonographers can earn a degree in diagnostic medical sonography by enrolling in vocational schools, colleges and universities that offer these educational programs. Schools generally require their students to have a high school diploma or equivalent in order to enter. Two year programs are popular among many students as they get to work earlier than most, though some prefer 4 year programs as this easily results in a bachelor€™s degree. Enroll in a school that has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), for eligibility in certification and license. Many employers will not hire entry level sonographers unless they have passed their license exams.

There are many specialties for an ultrasound technician to specialize in once he has graduated. These specialties are really going to be what sets him apart from the competition during job interviews and will also determine where hes supposed to work in. These specialties include echocardiography for diagnostic exams related to the heart, abdominal sonography where the spleen, gallbladder, liver and kidneys can be viewed, neurosonography generally used for the brain, breast sonography, vascular sonography for the veins in general and OB/GYN sonography for the female reproductive system.

Why an Education?

Education brings with it knowledge about health, the world we live in, a character building experience, and a sense of unity with the world. We can never question how great the impact of education is to the whole person’s mind, soul and body. Education greatly opens a lot of doors for possible career opportunities. It gives us better prospects both for our career and growth.

Today, all employers are looking for possible employees that are well educated. Expertise is required for each and everyone. That is why education has become one of the most important criteria’s for employment in any sector may it be on the medical field, technical field and so on. Education gives us a productive future. It is futuristic and ensures that the person receiving a good education will be secured in the future. Once a person is educated, the productivity also increases by acquiring the skills and talents needed in facing their career path. They will be placed in more competitive jobs considering that they have been equipped with a right training and education. We also know how important education is especially in decision making.

Career Schools or Traditional College?

There has always been a question in every high school graduates mind on where would they choose to study- in a traditional college or in a technical school. When choosing for a school, a lot of considerations are needed to be undertaken like the cost, amount of time required, the person’s lifestyle, and importantly their career goals. Understanding things between career training and trainings in universities may help you in your career. Making a choice on whether you will attend in a university or in a technical school depends greatly on these factors. First is the time one has for schooling. Unlike a bachelor’s degree at a university that can take four years to be completed, a technical degree can just be finished in a span of two years but some may reach a maximum of four years. Compared to a bachelor’s degree, which are not meant to prepare the future candidates for the job, there will be a great chance for them to gain employment. For some reasons like for example, some may spend a minimum of time and getting into the workplace on time when there are still other responsibilities like in school and for the family. By having a technical degree, it can provide trainings in different fields that can open doors of possibilities for employment.

Pros and Cons

The cost of a university is another factor that makes a technical school look more advantageous by comparison. Technical school is typically less expensive than the cost of a university or traditional college tuition. As an additional to the time factor- going into school for two years rather than four is desirable. With the technical college one can surely save a lot of money by cutting off two years of schooling in a traditional school. But for those people who can want to go in a university but they do not have money, getting a technical degree in two years. Some may even find a work that might allow them for the possibility of being in a part time university attendance and the ability to save money in order to afford attending a university.

Whether you are a stay at home mom but things of having a job for the first time, or a person who wants to consider having a second career, a person who has not been in the world of work for the past years and thinks of coming back or a person who just wants to learn more to open a lot of doors for opportunities a technical school may be a good option for you.

Make Your Own Choice

For a lot of reasons to choose from between a university or traditional college and a technical school are definitely grounded in the area of career goals. The person who also wants to have a professional degree like a law degree or medical degree, who wanted to be a teacher and those interested in humanities is more likely to go in a university rather than in a technical school to pursue their career plans. On the other hand, the careers that require a person to have a technical degree may be tailed by attending in a technical school. The person who wants to be a chef, hair dresser, medical assistant or mechanic may not be well accommodated in a university. With all of these comparisons, choosing a school for you depends on what you want in life. Think well before making a decision.

The need for dental assistants is currently very high as many healthcare jobs have seen very favorable rise over the years. The opening for healthcare jobs may be wide open, but people still want to work during real times of the day where their body clock won’t have to adjust to working during the odd hours of the night. Working as a job assistant is an attractive option because in this job you get your usual 9-5 job with the advantage of a healthy being able to work in a healthcare environment.

There are many responsibilities a dental assistant is obliged to following. One of them is having the capacity to think and act with great care and precision. They need a good memory for return clients as they are the frontlines of the dentist’s office. Customers want to feel as if they matter and one way to accomplish that is to remember every single face that comes and goes in the clinic. They need to remember the names of the client and pull out the exact clinical record the client has. They also need to be excellent communicators as new clients will judge the clinic based on the competency of the dental assistants that face them.

Dental assistants don’t need to perform clerical duties all the time. Depending on the educational level and salary that they receive, dental assistants can also be inside the dentist’s clinic. They can perform basic teeth cleaning services on clients with healthy teeth. If they spot anything wrong with a client’s teeth, they can quickly inform the dentist so the client can have a specific procedure done. During complicated dental procedures, dental assistant take x-ray films and prepare the instruments used for the procedure. They anticipate the dentist’s preferences on how to tackle a specific problem and prepare the fillers and instruments ahead of time. Once the procedure is done, they clean the instruments properly for next use.

Most dental assistants don’t need to get an education in order to work as some dentist’s prefer hands-on training experience. Unfortunately, these dental assistants are stuck in a dead end job with little salary and chance for advancement in their careers. You can become a certified dental assistant by finding schools accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). There are community colleges that offer 1 year courses in order to obtain a certificate as a dental assistant, but if you want to be licensed in your state, you’ll have to earn your education for two years in order to get an associates’ degree.

The average salary for a dental assistant is about $30,000 a year, but the more experience you gain, the higher your salary will become. Ones Dental Technician salary will vary depending many factors and can be as low as $24,900 per year up to $31,400 per year starting off. As entry level dental assistants, try to be patient in searching for the right employer. Competition can be a little harsh, but you can stand out from the crowd by including you other talents in the resume and by making a very good impression during your job interview.

X-ray technician jobs are not hard to come across these days. With a job growth of 15% within the next decade, a career as an x-ray technician may be well worth looking into. X-ray technicians are important members of the healthcare team. When a physician needs to locate the cause of an injury or illness, they often turn to the most easily available diagnostic tool known: the x-ray machine. With the help of an x-ray technician, patients are ushered into a room where they are positioned properly for the procedure. It only takes a few moments to obtain the results making this diagnostic tool quite ideal for emergency situations when physicians are not sure on how to proceed with a certain situation such as accidental injury.

A career as an x-ray technician is filled with technical challenges as well as interpersonal challenges. The workplace requires one to be quick on their feet and steady on their resolve. They deal with different personality types as well, requiring them to behave properly when patients need help with positioning or have numerous questions that need to be answered. Their job can be tiring especially when patients who are chronically ill become very uncooperative during the procedure or when they are called out of their beds in the middle of the night to perform emergency x-ray exams.

It is the x-ray technician’s job to prepare the patient before procedure. They need to check if the patient is wearing any metallic objects and makes sure that the patient fully understands the procedure. Once the procedure is done, x-ray technicians are able to interpret the basic shapes and figures that they see, but they are not allowed to give an illness related diagnosis. They may be able to describe what they see to the patient, but are not allowed to provide diagnosis. If they see anything requiring emergency attention, they will immediately call a physician to verify their findings.

The average salary of an entry level technician begins at a humble $40,000 annually, but the more experience on gains, the faster this salary increases.

Massage therapist job openings are higher these days. Forget what everyone says about the recession, we all deserve to treat ourselves to a little rest and relaxation every now and then. A massage therapist just does the job to calm our aching body from working overtime. Massage therapists know how to relax our bodies more than anyone else because they can locate the exact spots that require extra attention and make that nasty cramp disappear within a few minutes. They work by kneading and applying liniments or oils and use long strokes, sometimes they use their fingers to perform vibrations and percussions on the body.

In order to become a massage therapist, you must be extremely good in relating to other people. Though majority of the massage session is spent with the patient falling asleep under your hands, the initial step in forming a deep and lasting relationship with your clientele is by establishing rapport. Massage therapists can do this by performing a brief interview or assessment on the client’s specific complaint and then deciding what type of treatment works best for the client. Sometimes, the initial assessment saves massage therapists from being sued for causing further injury as many people still belief that the best way to heal a sprain is by having someone knead on the injury until the pain disappears.

There are a lot of modalities or specialties for massage therapists to study in. While there is no single modality that works best for everyone, the more specialties a massage therapist knows, the range of clientele she works with will become wider. Many people also appreciate the fact that the therapist they go to is versed in more than just one type of modality as this reassures them that the therapist can provide them with variety. The majority of massage therapists earn a little extra income by working part time jobs as on-call therapists. Massage therapists can work in spas, resorts and even health centers.

The salary of a massage therapist is defined by the amount of experience and education he or she has obtained through massage therapy schools and work experience. Massage therapists who work for clients that require special needs such as athletes, infants and pregnant mothers will earn a lot more than the therapists who work for people who just need to relax.

The educational requirements in order to enroll in a massage therapist program will vary from state to state, but all of the States generally agree that an aspiring therapist must have a high school diploma or equivalent in order to enroll. There are a lot of training schools to choose from, but make sure to check if the school is accredited by your state’s local licensing board as graduating from accredited school allows you the privilege of applying for a license.

Once you graduate from school, you must take a licensure exam in order to be qualified for work. You must pass either The National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork or The Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination in order to eligible for work.
